It meets Criterion C.","narrative":"This two and a half story, five bay house on Stinson Road in Andover has a central chimney, a clapboarded facade and a projecting one story Federal style lobby entrance. It is traditionally dated to about 1720-1726. The west side, probably once the kitchen and kitchen chamber, keeps exposed summer and tie beams, posts, girts and plates with quirked bead moulding, and the second floor has flared gunstock corner posts. These details resemble those of the Parson Barnard House in North Andover and other early 18th century Andover houses. The slightly larger east rooms have plastered ceilings, boxed framing and raised panelling, reflecting the Georgian finish that replaced exposed framing. A closed string, triple-run staircase stands in front of the chimney. The house is considered significant as an excellent example of this transition from First Period to vernacular Georgian interiors. Later changes include a one-story rear ell from the 1940s, a modern garage, and an old stone wall along Stinson Road.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"First Period/Transitional","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Condition described as good; in residential use. A rear ell was added in the 1940s and the kitchen and west chamber were remodelled.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:03.828113-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/74/7900/63790074/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/90000190.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000190/6fed90f934-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000190/6fed90f934-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:AndoverMA_AbbotStinsonHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:AndoverMA_AbbotStinsonHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63790074","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abbot-Stinson_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4664189"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/essex-county/abbot-stinson-house-90000190/"}
