Hidden beneath later boxing and paneling there may be early decorative details that could add to knowledge of First Period finishes. It was recommended under Criteria C and D.","narrative":"Standing at 523 Curve Street in Carlisle, this 2 1/2-story, five-bay clapboarded house has a double-cell First Period core built around a central chimney, dated c. 1700 though traditionally linked to George Robbins, who built a house and grist mill on land then part of Chelmsford. The chimney is fieldstone up to the attic floor, an uncommon feature in Massachusetts Bay First Period houses outside Middlesex County, where it became a regional variant. Inside, exposed summer beams with flat chamfers and lamb's tongue stops, hewn gunstock posts, and evidence of rising braces point to late 17th or early 18th century origins. Later Second Period boxing and feather-edged paneling cover much of the original finish and may conceal further early details. Additions include an 18th century lean-to, a Greek Revival door surround, and 19th and 20th century ells. An early 19th century barn and the old road to the mill site help preserve the setting, which includes over 32 acres of fields and woods.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"First Period","criteria":["C","D"],"status_note":"Condition described as good; in present use as a residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:03.830849-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/99/7903/63790399/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/90000168.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000168/b90f723669-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000168/b90f723669-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CarlisleMA_GeorgeRobbinsHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CarlisleMA_GeorgeRobbinsHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63790399","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Robbins_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5543917"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/robbins-george-house-90000168/"}
