It is now the United Church of Christ Congregational.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the building keeps integrity of location, design, materials and workmanship in its late First Period frame, which shows distinctive characteristics of form and construction. It is one of four known surviving First Period meeting houses in the survey area. Its roof framing, especially the elaborate axial bracing, makes it a valuable resource for studying meeting house framing.","narrative":"Built in 1732 as the meeting house of the Second Parish in Woburn, this six-bay, rectangular church at 12 Lexington Street in Burlington still serves a congregation as the United Church of Christ. Little of the original building survives beyond its basic shape, possibly some wall material behind the interior finish, and its structural frame. The roof framing visible in the attic includes cambered tie beams, curved braces, double rafters, king posts, common purlins and axial bracing. This bracing appears more elaborate than in the other known First Period meeting houses in the survey area, at Revere, North Lynnfield and Marblehead. A Greek Revival remodeling in 1844 added a steeple and an end entrance with Doric columns. In 1885 the steeple was removed and a side entry pavilion with a shorter bell tower was built. The building is valued for what it shows about the skill of early joiners.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"First Period frame, Colonial Revival exterior, Greek Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Listed in good condition and in present use as a church.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:03.948278-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/89/7907/63790789/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/90000167.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000167/51c97229a1-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000167/51c97229a1-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Woburn_Second_Parish_Meeting_House,_Burlington_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Woburn_Second_Parish_Meeting_House,_Burlington_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63790789","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meeting_House_of_the_Second_Parish_in_Woburn","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6807887"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/meeting-house-of-the-second-parish-in-woburn-90000167/"}
