The architect is unknown.","why_significant":"The nomination argues it represents early 20th century multi-family residential development of streetcar suburbs along Lincoln Street, north of downtown Worcester. It is also an unusually well-preserved and well-detailed example of the Colonial Revival three-decker design popular locally at the time.","narrative":"Built around 1912 at 61 Paine Street in Worcester, this three-decker is a wood-clapboard apartment house with a hip roof and a side-hall plan. Its asymmetrical front has an entry bay beside a three-story bay window. The most distinctive feature is the porch: a full-length first-floor porch that rises to three tiers at the entrance, supported by tall Tuscan columns and finished with an unusual post-and-slat balustrade. Windows have 2/1 sash, and regularly spaced brackets line the roof cornice. The first owner was Frank McPartland, a postal carrier who lived here through the 1920s, and early tenants included a wireworker, a teamster, firemen and another postal carrier. The house reflects the growth of the northern Lincoln Street area as a middle-class and working-class streetcar suburb, where residents commuted to jobs downtown and elsewhere in the city. It was listed for this setting and for its well-preserved Colonial Revival design, with no major alterations recorded.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Colonial Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Present use is residential; condition is described as very good, with no major alterations.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:04.924054-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/11/7933/63793311/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89002436.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002436/36baf1472f-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002436/36baf1472f-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WorcesterMA_FrankMcPartlandThreeDecker.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WorcesterMA_FrankMcPartlandThreeDecker.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793311","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_McPartland_Three-Decker","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14715477"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/mcpartland-frank-three-decker-89002436/"}
