The architect is unknown.","why_significant":"It is associated with the last surge of 20th-century three-decker construction in the Belmont Street area, a mostly Scandinavian, working-class neighborhood. It is also an unusually well-preserved and well-detailed example of a popular local variation of Colonial Revival three-decker design. It is considered significant at the local level under criteria A and C.","narrative":"Built around 1912 at 56/58 Olga Avenue in Worcester, this three-decker sits at the eastern edge of the Belmont Street neighborhood, and its rear looks out on Green Hill Park. It reflects the final major wave of three-decker building in that part of the city. At the time, the area was dominated by Swedish, Swede-Finn and Finnish families, many of them skilled metal tradesmen employed at nearby American Steel and Wire or other metal fabricating firms. The first owner and occupant, Charles Magnuson, was a foreman at Worcester Metal Goods and lived here into the late 1920s, while early tenants included a machinist and a cabinet maker. Architecturally, the house has a side-hall plan, a gable roof, wood clapboard siding with shingled porch and bays, a three-tier porch on square posts, a three-story round bay, and bracketed cornice eaves. It remains unaltered and well preserved, which supports its local significance.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Colonial Revival Three-Decker","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Condition described as very good, with no major alterations and present use as residential.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:03.917926-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/81/7932/63793281/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89002434.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002434/a9d31dc355-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002434/a9d31dc355-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Pvmoutside","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Charles_Magnuson_3_Decker_Worcester_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Pvmoutside</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Charles_Magnuson_3_Decker_Worcester_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793281","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Magnuson_Three-Decker","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5080589"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/magnuson-charles-three-decker-89002434/"}
