It is also an unusually well-preserved and well-detailed example of Colonial Revival three-decker design, and the best-preserved in its Lovell Street row.","narrative":"Built around 1918 at 90 Lovell Street in Worcester, this three-decker sits in a row of similar houses across from the Columbus Park School. It follows a side-hall plan with a gable roof, wood clapboard siding and shingle bands between stories. The asymmetrical front has a three-tier porch with paired square posts and a pedimented gable portico, beside a three-story bay window. Modillion blocks decorate the cornice, and floral stained glass appears in the upper sash of the front bays. The house matters for two reasons. It marks one of the rare extensions of multi-family three-deckers into the generally single-family, high-status West Side, where such buildings drew white-collar, middle-class residents. In 1920 it was owned and occupied by Samuel Hirst, a timekeeper. It is also the best-preserved and best-detailed three-decker on its street, and it shows little alteration. Its condition is excellent and it remains in residential use.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Colonial Revival Three-Decker","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Residential use, condition described as excellent, with no major alterations; a non-contributing garage is on the lot.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:04.014281-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/75/7932/63793275/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89002420.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002420/627c9cb278-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002420/627c9cb278-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WorcesterMA_SamuelHirstThreeDecker.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WorcesterMA_SamuelHirstThreeDecker.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793275","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Hirst_Three-Decker","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7411699"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/hirst-samuel-three-decker-89002420/"}
