The architect is unknown.","why_significant":"The nomination argues it is significant for its association with the working-class, Scandinavian, multi-family district that developed along Belmont Street in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is also an unusually well-preserved and particularly ornate example of Queen Anne three-decker design, with an uncommon cross-gable form. It meets criteria A and C at the local level.","narrative":"Built around 1902 at 167 Eastern Avenue in Worcester, this three-decker is a well-preserved example of Queen Anne housing design. It has a side-hall plan and an unusual cross-gable form. The asymmetrical front has a three-tier porch on slender Tuscan columns, beside a three-story bay window. A gable sweeps lower than the cornice over the bay, giving the facade a distinctive look. Walls are clapboard, with shingles on the bays, and heavy corner brackets with pendants decorate the cornice. The house sits at the northern edge of a cluster of three-deckers near Belmont Street, a working-class neighborhood of Swedish, Finn-Swede and Finnish families, many employed as skilled metal workers. The first known owners were the heirs of Lydia Blodgett. Later residents included a coachman, a painter, machinists, a molder and a dry goods merchant. It was listed for its link to that neighborhood and for its architectural quality and integrity.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Present use is residential, condition is very good, and no major alterations are recorded.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:03.507649-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/85/7933/63793385/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89002417.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002417/e8edbe61e8-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002417/e8edbe61e8-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Pvmoutside","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lydia_Blodgett_3_Decker.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Pvmoutside</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lydia_Blodgett_3_Decker.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793385","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lydia_Blodgett_Three-Decker","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6707588"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/blodgett-lydia-three-decker-89002417/"}
