The architect is unknown.","why_significant":"The nomination argues it is tied to the early development of a multi-family, working-class, ethnic neighborhood on Vernon Hill's southern slope. It is also an unusually well-preserved and well-detailed local example of Queen Anne three-decker design. It is considered significant at the local level.","narrative":"Built around 1900 at 26 Louise Street in Worcester, this three-decker reflects the growth of a working-class neighborhood on the southern slope of Vernon Hill, the city's most concentrated area of three-decker building. Many residents worked as wireworkers at the nearby South Works and Quinsigamond Village Works steel mills, and families of Irish and Swedish heritage settled here. David Hunt, a wireworker, was the first known owner and still owned and occupied the house in 1912. Tenants over the years included firemen, machinists, laborers and a brass foundry operator. Architecturally, the house follows the side-hall plan with a side-wall jog and has a hip roof with a wide cornice, paired brackets and larger corner brackets. A three-tier entry porch, probably rebuilt around 1925, sits beside a three-story curved bay. Clapboard siding, shingle bands between floors, and 2/1 windows with rope-molded caps complete the well-preserved Queen Anne detailing.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne Three-Decker","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Recorded in good condition, with residential use both originally and at present; the porch was probably rebuilt around 1925.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:05.192543-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/67/7933/63793367/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89002412.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002412/6fd295be2c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002412/6fd295be2c-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Pvmoutside","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:David_Hunt_3_Decker.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Pvmoutside</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:David_Hunt_3_Decker.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793367","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Hunt_Three-Decker","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5235261"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/hunt-david-three-decker-89002412/"}
