The architect is unknown.","why_significant":"It represents three-deckers built in the last stage of residential infill in the first decade of the 20th century in the Piedmont area, an ethnic, working-class, multi-family district. It is also an unusually well-detailed and unaltered example of Queen Anne elements used in three-decker construction. It is significant at the local level.","narrative":"Built around 1910 at 29 Dewey Street in Worcester, this three-decker sits at the western edge of a working-class residential district that grew west of downtown in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Dewey Street saw concentrated three-decker construction amid cottages, multi-family houses and light industry. The first known owner was B.E. Ridyard, about whom little is recorded. Later occupants listed in city directories included an optician, a carpenter, clerks and a City Hall secretary. The house has a side-hall plan, wood clapboard and shingle sheathing, a shallow hip roof with a small gable dormer, and bracketed eaves. Its asymmetrical facade combines a three-tier porch with turned posts and an unusual bracket-motif balustrade, beside a three-story bay window with geometric stained-glass upper lights. No major alterations are recorded. It was listed for its representation of late infill housing in the Piedmont area and for its well-preserved Queen Anne detailing.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne Three-Decker","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Present use is residential; condition is good, with no major alterations recorded.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:04.743494-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/79/7933/63793379/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89002402.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002402/6fc07491bb-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002402/6fc07491bb-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WorcesterMA_BERidyardThreeDecker.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WorcesterMA_BERidyardThreeDecker.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793379","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B._E._Ridyard_Three-Decker","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4833967"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/ridyard-b-e-three-decker-89002402/"}
