It sits on a steep hillslope and is still residential.","why_significant":"It is argued to be a representative example of early three-decker construction in the Belmont Street area, which was developing as a working-class, mostly Scandinavian neighborhood. It is also an unusually well-preserved and well-detailed local Queen Anne three-decker. It meets criteria A and C at the local level.","narrative":"Built around 1892 on a steep hillslope at the eastern end of Catharine Street in Worcester, this wood-frame three-decker reflects the neighborhood that grew up around it. Swedish, Finn-Swede and Finnish immigrant families lived in the area, and many worked as skilled metal workers at the nearby Washburn and Moen North Works. The house was first owned by Charles A. Lundburg, a clerk who lived next door and owned several other houses nearby. Architecturally, it is a well-preserved example of early local Queen Anne design. It has clapboard and shingle siding, a hip roof, a side-hall plan and an asymmetrical facade with a projecting three-story bay window. The single-story porch has turned posts, large brackets and a spindle frieze and balustrade. Bracketed cornices, 2/2 sash windows with decorative caps and geometric stained glass in the stairwell complete the detailing. The building was judged locally significant for its place in the area's working-class settlement and for its intact design.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne style Three-Decker","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Recorded as in good condition, with no major alterations and a present residential use.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:04.096649-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/55/7933/63793355/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89002399.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002399/5f382026b8-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002399/5f382026b8-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Charles_Lundberg_Three_Decker,_Worcester_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Charles_Lundberg_Three_Decker,_Worcester_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793355","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Lundberg_Three-Decker","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14715434"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/lundberg-charles-three-decker-89002399/"}
