It stands in the Cambridge Street area, a low-lying neighborhood shaped by three rail lines that ran out from downtown and by the factories along them. Workers, many of Irish extraction, filled the nearby housing. Elizabeth McCafferty, the first owner, lived here into the 1910s, and tenants included machinists, laborers, a policeman and a clerk. The house has a side-hall plan, a three-tier porch with lathe-turned posts, a three-story projecting bay, clapboard siding with shingle bands, and a hip roof with decorative brackets. It has had no major alterations and its exterior has been restored. It was listed as a well-preserved example of a locally important building type, the multi-family housing of Worcester's industrial working class.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne style Three-Decker","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Residential use; condition described as excellent, with the exterior recently restored and no major alterations.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:02.303145-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/57/7933/63793357/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89002395.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002395/b71991b192-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002395/b71991b192-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Unknown authorUnknown author","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ElizabethMcCaffertyThreeDecker.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Unknown authorUnknown author</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ElizabethMcCaffertyThreeDecker.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793357","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_McCafferty_Three-Decker","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14715456"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/mccafferty-elizabeth-three-decker-89002395/"}
