It is also an unusually well-preserved row of Colonial Revival three-deckers from the last phase of local three-decker construction.","narrative":"Four three-decker houses and three garages on Ingleside Avenue in Worcester form a small district built around 1928. The houses at 218, 220, 226 and 228 Ingleside Avenue are Colonial Revival in style and alternate between gable-roofed models with pediments and hip-roofed models. Each has a wide, simple plan, three-tier porches with square columns, triple windows, a shallow three-story side bay, wood clapboard siding with sawtooth shingle bands, and bracketed cornices. The row was part of the last phase of three-decker building in the Hamilton and Bloomingdale neighborhoods on the city's East Side. Carpenter Ernest Chevalier and blacksmith Adolphe Phaneuf were the first owners, and early tenants included toolmakers, clerks, a postal carrier and a machinist. Garages facing Rugby Street reflect residents who commuted by car. The district was listed for its intact architecture and as a representative 1920s multi-family suburb, with all seven buildings contributing.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1928","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Colonial Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"General condition described as very good; present use is residential.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:01.691654-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/7/7933/63793307/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89002369.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002369/fd64991073-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002369/fd64991073-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WorcesterMA_InglesideAvenueHD.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WorcesterMA_InglesideAvenueHD.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793307","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingleside_Avenue_Historic_District","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q12060747"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/ingleside-avenue-historic-district-89002369/"}
