It is also an unusually well-preserved and well-detailed example of Colonial Revival three-decker design.","narrative":"Built around 1918 at 76 Fairhaven Road, this three-decker is a wood-frame, three-family house in the Greendale section of north Worcester. It was part of the suburban subdivision of the area, which grew with electric streetcar connections and nearby industry. Many Swedish families settled here, and many residents worked at the Norton Company, which recruited Swedish workers. Contractor Lars Petterson developed this house and its neighbor at number 80, and he owned over a dozen houses in the district. Early residents included a foreman, an emery worker and a laborer, and by 1930 the owner-occupant was a drop forger. The gable-roofed building has wood clapboard with shingle bands between stories, a recessed three-tier porch with paired columns, a shallow three-story bay, modillion blocks and dentils under the cornice, and geometric-pattern decorative glass. It has seen no major alterations and is listed for its link to Swedish worker housing and its fine Colonial Revival detailing.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Possibly Lars Petterson (contractor/developer)","architectural_style":"Colonial Revival Three-Decker","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Residential use, condition described as excellent, with no major alterations; a four-car garage stands on the lot.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:01.715247-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/91/7932/63793291/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89002358.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002358/62bc58be30-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89002358/62bc58be30-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WorcesterMA_PettersonCarlsonThreeDecker.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WorcesterMA_PettersonCarlsonThreeDecker.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793291","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lars_Petterson-Adolph_Carlson_Three-Decker","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14715661"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/petterson-lars-adolph-carlson-three-decker-89002358/"}
