It is listed under Criterion C.","narrative":"Built around 1859, 85 Crescent Street is an Italianate house overlooking the Charles River in Waltham. It has a three-bay by one-bay main block with clapboards, corner-boards, fascia boards, a gable roof and paired brackets at the cornices. A center pavilion projects from the front, topped by a gable with a lunette window. Its entrance uses an 18th-century door and enframement, with fluted Doric pilasters and a dentillated pediment, installed in the 1920s. The lot was bought from the American Waltham Watch Company in 1859 by Robert Murray, a landscape gardener, whose family held the house for decades. The house is among the earliest of the large Victorian homes along this side of Crescent Street, which was nearly built up by 1890 with Italianate, Mansard and Queen Anne houses. It is valued as a well-preserved example of the center-pavilion Italianate type and as an early product of the Watch Company's South Side development.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Italianate","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Described as in excellent condition and still used as a private residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:01.633913-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/44/7910/63791044/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89001580.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001580/62a0839004-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001580/62a0839004-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WalthamMA_RobertMurrayHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WalthamMA_RobertMurrayHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791044","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Murray_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7347899"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/murray-robert-house-89001580/"}
