It is tied to the city's agricultural history through the early 20th century, when a market gardener owned it. It meets criteria A and C.","narrative":"Set back from a winding street at 75 Lincoln Street in Waltham, this 1831 farmhouse keeps the look of a working farm amid mostly twentieth-century houses. It is a five-by-one bay Federal house with two rear chimneys, plain window surrounds and full-length sidelights. Later additions include a turned-post porch and ells on the east and north. A large three-by-five bay barn and a long stable, now a garage, remain on the lot. Marshall Sanderson, a stonecutter and son of Nathan Sanderson I, built the house and sold it in 1834 to Nathan Clark. Clark's brother Daniel, a shoemaker, later owned it, and his shop is still attached. In 1876 it passed to Francis Clark Smith, listed in 1899 as a market gardener, who still owned it in 1923. His tennis club used the front lawn for courts from 1888 to 1892. The property is valued as a well-preserved agricultural remnant and as one of five Federal farmhouses in the area.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Marshall Sanderson (builder, per the historical statement); architect unknown","architectural_style":"Federal","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Residential use, in good condition, not moved; later side ells and a porch have been added.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:01.638244-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/22/7913/63791322/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89001557.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001557/fb5d6e31b3-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001557/fb5d6e31b3-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WalthamMA_SandersonClarkFarmhouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WalthamMA_SandersonClarkFarmhouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791322","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanderson%E2%80%93Clark_Farmhouse","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14715840"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/sanderson-clark-farmhouse-89001557/"}
