It was the home of a family tied to the Piety Corner area since the 17th century and illustrates that area's early settlement and agricultural origins. It meets criteria A and C.","narrative":"This farmhouse at 107 Lincoln Street in Waltham was reportedly built around 1783 by Nathan Sanderson I, who acquired the property from his brother Jonathan after their father, Jonathan Sanderson Sr., died in 1781. It stands on the site of an earlier house built about 1707 by Edward Sanderson, and it may incorporate that house's cellar. The building began as a two-room, 1½-story cottage. Before 1834 the roof was raised and a rear lean-to added, and later the lean-to roof was raised to give the full two-story Federal form. Today it is a symmetrical five-bay house with a gable roof, a large central chimney, clapboard siding, narrow corner boards and molded window and door trim. A rear ell was added in the 1920s. The house is valued as one of Waltham's surviving Federal farmhouses with early features intact, and as a link to the Sanderson family's long presence in the Piety Corner area and to the city's agricultural past.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Nathan Sanderson I (builder, reportedly); architect unknown","architectural_style":"Federal","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Present use is a dwelling; condition described as good.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:00.698725-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/37/7919/63791937/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89001556.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001556/e52fbbcbc8-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001556/e52fbbcbc8-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Nathan_Sanderson_I_House,_Waltham_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Nathan_Sanderson_I_House,_Waltham_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791937","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_Sanderson_I_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6969327"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/sanderson-nathan-i-house-89001556/"}
