It is also tied to Waltham's tradition of great country estates, since it housed the gardener of the Cedar Hill estate. It is argued to meet criteria A and C.","narrative":"Standing on a prominent corner lot at Beaver and Linden Streets in Waltham, this brick and half-timbered house was built between 1900 and 1911 as the gardener's residence for Cedar Hill, the estate of Cornelia Otis Warren. The T-plan building rises two and a half stories to a slate gable roof. Its projecting brick ends finish in curved Flemish gables with heavy beltcourses and cast iron ties, while the stem of the T is half-timbered at the second story. Paired and tripled multi-pane windows, a one-story brick entry porch and tall multi-pot chimneys complete the design. By 1915 Henry Stewart, the estate's gardener, lived here, and by 1939 he was listed as a commercial florist at the address. The Warren estate once covered about 200 acres on both sides of Beaver Street before passing to the Girl Scouts in the 1920s. The house is valued as Waltham's finest Jacobethan example and as a reminder of the city's country estate tradition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Jacobethan","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Present use is residential; condition is good and no major alterations are recorded.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:02.22816-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/85/7917/63791785/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89001553.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001553/28bb0149a1-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001553/28bb0149a1-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WalthamMA_HenryStewartHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WalthamMA_HenryStewartHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791785","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Stewart_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5728730"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/stewart-henry-house-89001553/"}
