Prospect School for Boys. It is now a private residence.","why_significant":"The nomination argues it is a fine example of early 1920s Georgian Revival institutional architecture adapted to several uses over time. It is also tied to the school's founder, philanthropist and Boy Scouts leader Arthur Astor Carey, and to an experimental school that combined intellectual and physical education.","narrative":"Built in 1923 on a rise in Waltham, Massachusetts, 90 Worcester Lane was constructed as the Mt. Prospect School for Boys. Arthur Astor Carey, a philanthropist and Boy Scouts of America leader, founded the experimental private school on the idea that an excellent education combined with respect for the outdoors produces great leaders. He died in 1923 before the building was finished, and the school operated only about ten years. The brick building is roughly U-shaped, with a five-bay main facade facing a circular driveway, a rusticated center entrance with a keystone, 5/6 wood sash windows, a modillion block cornice and a tile roof. Three brick chimneys add a Jacobethan note. In the 1930s it became a residence, was converted to a nursing home in 1950, and was returned to residential use in 1983. It is recognized for its architecture and for its link to Carey's educational ideals.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect unknown","architectural_style":"Georgian Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Described as in good condition and in use as a private residence; reconverted to a residence in 1983 after use as a nursing home.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:03.949881-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/54/7916/63791654/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89001525.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001525/3026c5aa27-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001525/3026c5aa27-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Unknown authorUnknown author","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WalthamMountProspectSchool.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Unknown authorUnknown author</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WalthamMountProspectSchool.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791654","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Prospect_School_for_Boys","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14715729"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/mt-prospect-school-for-boys-89001525/"}
