It is a clapboard-clad residence with a shed outbuilding.","why_significant":"The nomination argues it is a well-preserved vernacular farmhouse with Italianate features such as a symmetrical three-bay facade, wide cornerboards and entablature, and round-arched gable windows. It is the only Italianate house in its area and one of few Italianate farmhouses in the city. It is also the oldest surviving house on Warren Street, an early route connecting to Watertown and Belmont.","narrative":"Set back from Warren Street among twentieth century houses, this clapboard farmhouse in Waltham was built between 1850 and 1854 and remains largely unaltered. Its three-by-one bay form, center entrance, gabled roof, wide corner boards, corner returns and round-headed gable windows mark it as Italianate, and a probable original front door with sidelights survives. It is the only Italianate house in its neighborhood and one of the few Italianate farmhouses in the city. The land once belonged to the Warrens, among Waltham's earliest settlers, and David White, a farmer from Concord, bought it in 1834. In 1855 he sold the farm to Warren White, a wheelwright, who had apparently already built the house, since an 1854 map carries his name. Later occupants included marble workers, a grocer and a salesman. As the oldest surviving house on Warren Street, it also reflects the area's early settlement along a route toward Watertown and Belmont.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Italianate","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Condition described as good, with no major alterations and not moved; present use is residential.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:00.156681-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/40/7910/63791040/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89001519.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001519/057a214663-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001519/057a214663-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Waltham_MA_Warren_White_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Waltham_MA_Warren_White_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791040","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_White_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7970583"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/white-warren-house-89001519/"}
