Lennon. It faces Liberty Square.","why_significant":"The nomination calls it the best preserved example of a modest Queen Anne residence once common in south and west Quincy. It is the only one of several similar local houses to keep all its original decorative detail, and it retains integrity of design, materials and setting.","narrative":"Built around 1888 at 53 Taber Street in Southwest Quincy, this Queen Anne cottage was constructed for Edward J. Lennon, an inspector for the Board of Health. His family kept the property until after 1923. The house sits on land once known as Captain's Plain, later held by the Adams family, whose heirs subdivided it into streets and house lots around Taber and Liberty streets and the small park called Liberty Square. The cottage has a gable-end facade, decorative truss work at the projecting roof end, a gable filled with shingles of varied shapes, and a porch with thin turned posts and small brackets. These features match a pattern-book design of the period. It is the best preserved of two identical houses facing each other across the square, and the only local example to keep all its original decoration. It has had no major alterations and remains a single-family home in good condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Recorded in good condition, with no major alterations and still used as a single-family dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:00.823102-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/98/7925/63792598/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89001378.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001378/bb8a110edc-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001378/bb8a110edc-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Jameslwoodward","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Edward_J_Lennon_House_Quincy_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Jameslwoodward</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Edward_J_Lennon_House_Quincy_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63792598","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_J._Lennon_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5343658"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/norfolk-county/lennon-edward-j-house-89001378/"}
