Its granite English Parish style building dates from 1874, with a Tudor Revival parish house added in 1925.","why_significant":"The nomination calls it Quincy's best example of English Parish church architecture among several mid-19th century imitations. It retains integrity of design, location, feeling, materials, workmanship and association. It is also the fourth home of a congregation organized in 1704, which supports the religious exception.","narrative":"Christ Church occupies a prominent corner lot at 14 Quincy Avenue, near Quincy Center. The present granite church was built in 1874 after fire destroyed its 1859 predecessor in 1873. It is a low granite building with a slate roof, a front gable dominated by a large pointed window and trefoil openings, two side entry porches, buttressed side walls and a small apse at the east end. A Tudor Revival parish house, built of granite in 1925 to designs by local contractor and architect William Lofgren, extends from the south side and east end. A 19th century granite wall along Quincy Avenue and Elm Street contributes to the complex, while a small rear garage does not. The congregation was organized in 1704 as the First Church of England in Braintree and built earlier churches in 1727 and 1832. The building is considered Quincy's finest example of English parish church design from the mid-19th century.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect unknown for the 1874 church; the 1925 parish house was by local contractor/architect William Lofgren","architectural_style":"English Parish","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Condition is described as good; the building is the present church.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:01.706604-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/8/7924/63792408/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89001369.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001369/ccb1226ec7-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001369/ccb1226ec7-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Sswonk","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Christ_Church_Quincy_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Sswonk</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Christ_Church_Quincy_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63792408","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christ_Church_(Quincy,_Massachusetts)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5108759"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/norfolk-county/christ-church-89001369/"}
