Architect unknown.","why_significant":"The house is a well-executed example of the transition from Shingle Style to Colonial Revival and is among the best-preserved Shingle Style houses in the President's Hill neighborhood. It represents homes built by local businessmen, civic leaders and Boston commuters. It was built for George A. Sidelinger, a Quincy city council member and council president.","narrative":"Built around 1904 at 19 Avon Way in Quincy, Massachusetts, this single-family house reflects the late Shingle Style blended with Colonial Revival design. It has a gabled roof, a three-bay facade and a central gable with curved shingled walls forming a recess for the casement window. A Palladian window sits below the gable, and a one-story bay window is balanced by an entrance portico with triple Doric columns and a Greek pediment reached by large granite steps. It was built for George A. Sidelinger, who served on the city council from 1894 to 1898, was council president in 1889, commuted to Boston for work and was active in the YWCA. The house stands in President's Hill, developed from the 1890s after the Charles Francis Adams estate was divided, as an elite neighborhood for businessmen, civic leaders and commuters. It is listed for its architecture and its link to that development, and it retains good integrity.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Shingle Style (late, with Colonial Revival elements)","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Condition described as excellent; in use as a single-family dwelling.
