It retains integrity of location, design, materials, workmanship and association, and meets Criterion C at the local level. It is the only house in the Somerville multiple resource nomination that embodies both styles.","narrative":"Built around 1895 at 54 Vinal Avenue in Somerville, this 2 1/2-story gable-roofed house combines two late Victorian styles. Its asymmetrical Queen Anne form includes varied window sizes and placement, a conical bay offset to the right, and a polygonal bay on an ogee base with a spring eave roof offset to the left. Shingle Style treatment appears in the wood shingle walls, which are cut in a variety of patterns, and in the entrance porch, which has wide shingled posts and a band of sawtooth shingles along its frieze. The house faces east in a late-19th-century residential neighborhood between Prospect Hill and Central Hill. It was built by Walter Wright, a milk can manufacturer with offices in Charlestown who was active in a nearby Universalist church. The house is recognized for its well-preserved integrity of design and for being the only property in its group of nominations to embody both styles. It has had no major alterations, remains in its original location and is in good condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect unknown; built by Walter Wright","architectural_style":"Queen Anne/Shingle Style","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Condition described as good, with no major alterations and not moved; used as a residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:01.120143-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/18/7912/63791218/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89001293.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001293/b5364b9edb-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001293/b5364b9edb-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SomervilleMA_WrightHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SomervilleMA_WrightHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791218","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wright_House_(Somerville,_Massachusetts)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q8038220"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/wright-house-89001293/"}
