It represents the city's late-19th-century boom in residential construction. It also reflects Prospect Hill's development as a neighborhood of businessmen and professionals.","narrative":"This Queen Anne house at 97 Munroe Street in Somerville's Prospect Hill neighborhood dates to 1890. Its clapboard and shingle walls and its asymmetrical facade include front and canted gable-roofed bays, a side oriel, a conical finial-capped roof, a tall masonry chimney and an integral porch with spindlework. It is considered the best detailed example of its style in the Prospect Hill area and remains well preserved, with no major alterations recorded. Prospect Hill was farmland until the mid-19th century but by the 1880s had become a fashionable address for prominent residents, including local businessmen and Boston commuters. This house was one of the last single-family homes built in that boom. It was apparently built on speculation by Louville Niles, a Faneuil Hall provisions seller who lived nearby at 45 Walnut Street and built two houses on his large parcel in 1890. Banker Edward Tead lived here throughout the 1890s. The house was listed for its architectural value on a local level.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect unknown; apparently built on speculation by businessman-developer Louville Niles","architectural_style":"Queen Anne","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Condition described as good, with no major alterations and not moved; used as a residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:01.266628-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/82/7911/63791182/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89001276.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001276/cc1af66625-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001276/cc1af66625-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SomervilleMA_LouvilleVNilesHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SomervilleMA_LouvilleVNilesHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791182","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louville_V._Niles_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6689890"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/niles-louville-v-house-89001276/"}
