It also represents the last major type of single-family house built in East Somerville. It meets Criterion C at the local level.","narrative":"Built around 1885 on the south side of Arlington Street, a small one-way street in East Somerville, this clapboard house shows the shift from Italianate to Queen Anne design. It has a gable roof, two and a half stories and a side-hall plan, a form builders favored in the Italianate mode during the 1870s and 1880s. Paired cornice brackets and hood moldings over the windows come from the Italianate style. Patterned wood shingles, sturdy turned porch posts and a rising sun motif in the porch gable reflect the Queen Anne style. The house has had no major alterations, has no outbuildings and is in excellent condition. It was listed for its architecture, as a fine local example of popular late nineteenth-century styles with well-preserved details. It also represents the last major type of single-family house built in East Somerville. The architect is unknown, and the building's original name is not recorded.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne (transitional bracketed Italianate/Queen Anne)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Present use is residence; condition listed as excellent, with no major alterations and not moved.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:01.994282-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/50/7910/63791050/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89001230.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001230/ec97682bef-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001230/ec97682bef-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SomervilleMA_HouseAt10ArlingtonStreet.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SomervilleMA_HouseAt10ArlingtonStreet.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791050","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_J._Squire_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5913864"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/house-at-10-arlington-street-89001230/"}
