It is the greatest concentration of such houses in Statesboro and the largest historic residential neighborhood in the multiple property listing area. It may also have social history value as a middle-class neighborhood, though this was not documented to National Register standards.","narrative":"North College Street in northwest Statesboro is lined with a neighborhood of modest houses built between 1922 and 1930. The district covers about 13 acres and holds 24 contributing buildings plus two later houses from the 1940s. Most are one- or one-and-a-half-story Craftsman bungalows with multi-gabled roofs, weatherboard siding, exposed rafter ends, and porches on tapered wooden columns set on brick piers. A few have hipped roofs, and brick appears as both a decorative and structural material. Mature oaks and pines shade the street, and yards are informally landscaped with azaleas and crepe myrtles. Early residents included a dentist, a hardware store owner, a barber, a mail carrier, and a Coca-Cola bottling manager, many of whom walked to work downtown. The district was listed for architecture because it is the largest concentration of small-town bungalow housing in Statesboro and has kept its historic character, though some houses are now rentals or businesses.","period_of_significance":"1922-1930","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Bungalow/Craftsman; Colonial Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"The district remains primarily single-family residential. A few houses have been subdivided into apartments and two have been converted to commercial use. Two 1940s houses are noncontributing.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:42.660176-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/89001158.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001158/8878acdd53-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001158/8878acdd53-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Blastoids","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:North_College_St._Residential_Historic_Dist..JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Blastoids</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:North_College_St._Residential_Historic_Dist..JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93205882","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q49532310"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/bulloch-county/north-college-street-residential-historic-district-89001158/"}
