The house dates from about the 1830s/40s, with later remodeling.","why_significant":"The complex is an intact collection of nineteenth-century farm buildings in a rural agrarian setting. The farmhouse is a representative example of local vernacular architecture, modernized in the Victorian era with Italianate and Gothic-inspired ornament. The property also illustrates mid-scale, middle-class farming in Lima through the nineteenth century.","narrative":"Set well back from Clay Road in the town of Lima, this farmstead combines a much-remodeled farmhouse with a nearly complete set of agricultural outbuildings. The two-story clapboard house is believed to date from the early nineteenth century, as shown by hand-hewn sills, half-log joists and hand-split lath. Around the third quarter of the century it was updated with a front cross gable, bracketed porches, bay windows and miter-arched window and door trim in Italianate and Gothic styles. Behind it stand three barns, a carriage barn with an attached shed, and a machine shed, with open fields and a pond nearby. The property was listed for its architecture and its record of agriculture. It represents the typical mid-sized farms that most Lima farmers worked in the nineteenth century. Census records show the Moses family farm growing from about fifty acres in 1850 to 280 acres by 1875, producing grain, fruit and sheep. The family held the farm until 1933.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1830s/40s; ca. 1860s through ca. 1900","architect_builder":"Architect: unknown; Builder: unknown","architectural_style":"Early nineteenth-century vernacular farmhouse with Italianate and Gothic Revival-inspired ornamentation","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Listed as in good condition and still used as a residence; no threats to the building are known.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:45.174483-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/89001132.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001132/880f76472b-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001132/880f76472b-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD","credit_html":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ZEBULON_MOSES_FARM_COMPLEX,_LIVINGSTON_COUNTY.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75313419","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zebulon_Moses_Farm_Complex","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q8068334"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/livingston-county/moses-zebulon-farm-complex-89001132/"}
