It also illustrates the history of rural district schooling in Lima, serving the southwest part of town until 1946.","narrative":"Built about 1843 on land deeded to the school district by Alfred and Rachel Warner, this one-story cobblestone schoolhouse on Jenks Road in Lima served children of the town's southwest section until 1946. The 26-by-26-foot main block and smaller east wing carry a low gable roof, flat-arched stone lintels and prominent gray limestone corner quoins, typical of vernacular Greek Revival detailing. Its fieldstones vary in size, shape and color and are laid in fairly straight rows, marking the early phase of cobblestone construction in western New York. The building was one of eight rural district schools in Lima and is among the few survivors. After the district closed it, the building was sold in 1953 and converted to a residence. The former classroom remains an undivided room with simple Greek Revival woodwork, and a small frame rear addition from 1987 is not visible from the road. It sits on open farmland with long views toward the Bristol Hills.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1843","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Vernacular Greek Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Converted to a residence in the 1950s; condition described as good, with no known threats.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:44.794528-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/89001121.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001121/872cf1a286-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001121/872cf1a286-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Lvklock","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:School_No._6_Jenks_Road_Lima_NY.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Lvklock</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:School_No._6_Jenks_Road_Lima_NY.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75313428","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_No._6","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7432290"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/livingston-county/school-no-6-89001121/"}
