A date stone in the gable end records its construction in 1832.","why_significant":"The house is significant as a distinctive example of early cobblestone architecture in western New York, with stones of varied size, shape and color laid in simple horizontal rows. Its form reflects lingering Federal building traditions, while its quoins and bold stone lintels show early Greek Revival influence. Its Federal-style arched entrance and an intact ornate cast-iron hitching post add to its importance.","narrative":"Built in 1832, according to a date stone in its gable end, this two-story, three-bay farmhouse on West Main Road near Lima is faced in cobblestones of varied size, shape and color, laid in neat horizontal courses. A rear wing has a cobblestone first story and a wood-frame second story. The center entrance is topped by a semi-elliptical stone arch with keystone and a wooden fan, a Federal-style feature that is rare in Lima. Stone quoins, lintels and sills frame the windows, suggesting early Greek Revival taste. Deeds are unclear, but the house was probably built by the Morgan family, early Lima settlers, perhaps as a tenant house for the nearby brick John Morgan House. It later served as a rental house. An ornate nineteenth-century cast-iron hitching post stands by the road. The house was listed for its architecture as an example of western New York cobblestone building, on a five-acre parcel.","period_of_significance":"1832","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Federal/early Greek Revival cobblestone","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Condition rated good; in residential use as originally. Original central staircase is gone and some fireplaces were removed, and the east wall of the rear wing was re-covered in modern siding after a kitchen fire.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:45.97838-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/89001118.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001118/edb7d43571-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001118/edb7d43571-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Lvklock","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Morgan_Cobblestone_Farmhouse_Lima_NY.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Lvklock</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Morgan_Cobblestone_Farmhouse_Lima_NY.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75313369","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morgan_Cobblestone_Farmhouse","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6911607"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/livingston-county/morgan-cobblestone-farmhouse-89001118/"}
