Morgan Thrush built the house; the builder is unknown.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the complex is significant under Criterion C for architecture, as a variation of the American Four-Square farmhouse with its outbuildings. It represents the size and quality of early 20th century farm complexes, few of which remain. Its plan, interior and exterior details and group of outbuildings are well preserved.","narrative":"This farm complex on Gender Road in Canal Winchester centers on a 2 1/2 story brick farmhouse built around 1910 for Morgan Thrush, his wife Mary and their three daughters. The house follows the American Four-Square form, with a nearly square plan, but adds projecting two-story gabled bays on its east and west sides and a wraparound brick-columned porch. Inside, oak woodwork, a tiled fireplace, pocket doors, a built-in china cabinet with leaded glass and period light fixtures survive. Seven outbuildings stand nearby, including barns, a drive-thru granary, a chicken coop, a privy, a summer kitchen and a garage. Some of these predate the house. Thrush ran a mixed grain and livestock farm typical of Madison Township in the early twentieth century, on land his family had expanded since the 1870s. The house is one of 31 Four-Square houses in the village, and only four are brick. The complex was recognized for its architecture and its well-preserved condition.","period_of_significance":"c. 1910","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Other: American Four-Square","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Historic and current functions are both listed as single dwelling, with agricultural outbuildings, animal facility and storage. The property was sold out of the Thrush family in 1987-88.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:14.182208-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/89001036.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985091","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":null},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/franklin-county/thrush-morgan-farm-complex-89001036/"}
