It represents the size and quality of early 20th century farm complexes, few of which remain. Its plan, interior and exterior details, and outbuildings are well preserved.","narrative":"Parley Haffey built this brick farmhouse around 1920, soon after acquiring about 60 acres from his father-in-law in 1918. The house is a variation of the American Four-Square type: box-like, with a low slate hipped roof, but on a rectangular rather than square plan. The dormer sits on the north side, and the one-story porch turns the southeast corner. Inside, oak woodwork, beveled glass French doors, hardwood floors and a mantel with a built-in bookcase survive. Seven frame outbuildings remain, including a gambrel-roof barn, a granary, a two-car garage, two hog houses, a pump house and a truck garage. Haffey ran a mixed grain and livestock farm of about 100 acres typical of Madison Township. The property is listed for its architecture. It is one of 31 Four-Square houses within the village limits, only four of them brick, and an example of the early 20th century farm complexes that are now rare.","period_of_significance":"c. 1920","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Other: American Four-Square Variation","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling, with outbuildings used for agricultural purposes, animal facilities and storage.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:14.651125-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/89001022.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001022/07be99339f-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89001022/07be99339f-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Parley_Haffey_Farmhouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Parley_Haffey_Farmhouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985073","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q137806844"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/franklin-county/haffey-parley-farm-complex-89001022/"}
