It keeps its integrity of location, setting, design, materials, workmanship, feeling and association. It meets Criterion C at the local level.","narrative":"Lakeside Cemetery Chapel is a single-story Neo-Gothic building on North Avenue in Wakefield, Massachusetts, completed in 1932. Its design draws on small English country churches. It has a sharply pitched gable roof, repeated in an entrance portico with a slate roof that extends from the north facade. Buttresses mark the north and south sides. The walls are rough-cut, dressed stone with limestone trim at the pointed ogival entrance arch, the ogival windows, the watertable and the stringcourse. The chapel faces west at the end of a drive from North Avenue. It has had no major alterations and is in excellent condition. It was listed because it is one of only two or three Neo-Gothic buildings in town and a well-preserved local example of the style. The cemetery itself was formed in 1846 by Wakefield residents who found the Old Burial Ground inadequate for the growing population. Land reaching North Avenue was acquired later.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Neo-Gothic","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Condition described as excellent, with no major alterations and no outbuildings; present use is as a chapel.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:02.335965-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/20/7911/63791120/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89000745.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000745/c546df941a-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000745/c546df941a-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WakefieldMA_LakesideCemeteryChapel.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WakefieldMA_LakesideCemeteryChapel.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791120","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lakeside_Cemetery_Chapel","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6479078"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/lakeside-cemetery-chapel-89000745/"}
