It keeps its integrity of location, setting, design, materials, workmanship, feeling and association. It is considered significant at the local level for its architecture.","narrative":"Built around 1918, this 1½-story Craftsman bungalow at 13 Sheffield Road in Wakefield combines stucco with fieldstone. A low, widespread gable roof carries a broad cross gable, and wide eaves extend on exposed purlins. Battered porch supports are typical of the style, and purlins also appear on the rectangular oriel. Strapwork in the gable end and on the gabled dormer gives the house an unusual, medieval-inspired look that sets it apart in a neighborhood of bungalows. The house is recorded in excellent condition, with no major alterations and a contributing garage. The land lies on what was once Cowdry's Hill, settled in the late 17th century and later farmed by James Eustis. After his heirs began dividing it in the 1870s, H. Seymour Kelsey had laid out 67 lots by 1916. Only two had sold when the plan was re-filed in 1922. The house was recognized as an outstanding local example of Craftsman design.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Craftsman Bungalow","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Used as a dwelling; recorded in excellent condition with no major alterations.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:01.035809-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/79/7906/63790679/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89000734.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000734/c9d846c09e-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000734/c9d846c09e-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WakefieldMA_13SheffieldRoad.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WakefieldMA_13SheffieldRoad.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63790679","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_13_Sheffield_Road","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5913945"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/house-at-13-sheffield-road-89000734/"}
