It also is one of the first houses in a development begun in 1916 by H. Seymour Kelsey. It retains integrity of location, setting, design, materials, workmanship, feeling and association.","narrative":"Built around 1917 on a high, rounded lot behind a fieldstone embankment, this 1½-story house at 30 Sheffield Road in Wakefield is an example of the Craftsman style. The style aimed to make a house look hand-crafted while using machine-made materials, and this design mixes stucco, fieldstone, brick and wood. A gable roof covers the main body, and two large cross gables at the ends form porches on heavy columns. The central entry sits under a gabled hood, a low shed dormer holds a band of windows, and a pergola, exposed purlins and contrasting wooden trim add to its distinctive look. The house was among the first built in a development begun in 1916, when H. Seymour Kelsey bought a large tract north of Prospect Street. By 1922 only two lots had been sold and built on, a slow start the form attributes to World War I. It is regarded as locally significant for its architecture and its preserved integrity.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Craftsman Style","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Present use is a dwelling; condition is listed as fair, with no major alterations.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:01.507022-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/81/7906/63790681/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89000733.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000733/9c1890a71e-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000733/9c1890a71e-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WakefieldMA_30SheffieldRoad.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WakefieldMA_30SheffieldRoad.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63790681","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_30_Sheffield_Road","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5914222"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/house-at-30-sheffield-road-89000733/"}
