It retains integrity of location, setting, design, materials, workmanship, feeling and association. It was judged eligible under criterion C at the local level.","narrative":"This house at 25 Avon Street in Wakefield was built around 1889 as a dwelling and is still used as one. Avon Street was laid out in 1848 on land of Lemuel Sweetser by his heirs, and the lot belonged to Oliver Perkins, a provisions dealer who lived elsewhere on the street and bought and sold property on the West Side. The house is regarded as one of the most exuberant Queen Anne designs in Wakefield. Its designer drew on nearly every available motif, combining Shingle Style forms, such as the rounded dormer roof, shingled brackets and curved bays beneath a hipped roof, with Queen Anne features including south and west porches with arched openings, sunburst spandrels, floral relief on the porch pediment and stained glass windows. Walls are shingle and clapboard, and a carriage house also contributes. No major alterations are recorded, and the house retains its original character.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne (with Shingle Style elements)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Condition is listed as fair; the building is in present use as a dwelling with no major alterations recorded.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:01.891504-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/74/7911/63791174/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89000731.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000731/c35ec85502-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000731/c35ec85502-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_25_Avon_Street,_Wakefield_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_25_Avon_Street,_Wakefield_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791174","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_25_Avon_Street","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5914171"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/house-at-25-avon-street-89000731/"}
