It is well preserved and retains its integrity. It also reflects the street's growth after the railroad brought new residents.","narrative":"Built around 1885 as a single-family dwelling, this Colonial Revival house on Chestnut Street in Wakefield now serves as a funeral home. It rises two and a half stories under a hip roof with flared eaves, a feature that appears late in the style's development. The cornice resembles a pattern book illustration, with modillion blocks, a dentilled frieze, and egg and dart and acanthus moldings above broad fluted Ionic pilasters. A southern porch rests on paired columns beneath a balustrade with urns and a pediment. The second floor has a Palladian window composition, the first-floor windows sit in rounded bays, and the door has a carved surround with wide leaded sidelights. It is one of only two full-blown high-style Colonial Revival houses in Wakefield and remains in excellent, unaltered condition. Chestnut Street was laid out in 1847 as the railroad drew new residents, and in 1889 the house was occupied by Thomas J. Skinner, a Boston bookkeeper.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Colonial Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Condition is listed as excellent with no major alterations; present use is a funeral home, and a garage is a contributing outbuilding.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:00.044878-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/61/7906/63790661/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89000726.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000726/e0b60129f8-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000726/e0b60129f8-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_15_Chestnut_Street,_Wakefield_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_15_Chestnut_Street,_Wakefield_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63790661","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_15_Chestnut_Street","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5913961"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/house-at-15-chestnut-street-89000726/"}
