It faces south on a high corner lot of under one acre.","why_significant":"The house is one of the relatively few Tudor Revival houses in Wakefield and is described as one of the highest-style examples. It is also part of the Wakefield Park suburban development, laid out on land once owned by J. S. Merrill. It meets criterion C at the local level.","narrative":"Built around 1890 at the corner of Morrison Avenue in Wakefield, this two-and-a-half-story dwelling is a Tudor Revival house with shingled walls and a hipped roof topped by copper cresting. A wide verandah wraps around the south and west sides. A shallow transverse gable, a dormer, a gabled porch entry and a two-story bay on the west give the plan the asymmetry the style favored, while barge boards and half-timbering on the porch add Tudor details. Few Tudor Revival houses exist in Wakefield, and this is considered one of the finest. The house sits on land once owned by J. S. Merrill, who laid out part of Park Avenue and Summit Street to Morrison Avenue in 1883 during early development of Wakefield Park. Merrill later joined Charles Hanks in assembling over 100 acres, divided into generous lots for new suburban residents. The house remains in good condition and has not been significantly altered.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Tudor Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Recorded in good condition, in use as a dwelling, with no major alterations and no outbuildings.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:12:59.801146-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/0/7913/63791300/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89000722.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000722/a1ba5bfcf3-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000722/a1ba5bfcf3-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WakefieldMA_1MorrisonAvenue.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WakefieldMA_1MorrisonAvenue.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791300","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_1_Morrison_Avenue","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5914065"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/house-at-1-morrison-avenue-89000722/"}
