It may have been copied from a pattern book and retains its integrity of location, setting, design, materials, workmanship, feeling and association. It is considered significant at the local level under Criterion C.","narrative":"Built in 1922 on a narrow suburban lot facing north, this small bungalow at 18 Park Street in Wakefield is valued as a well-preserved example of its type. It rises one and a half stories under a broad, steeply pitched roof with exposed rafters, which shelters a deep screened porch. The roof rests on squat battered pillars set on tall rock-faced granite ashlar bases that run through the foundations. Panels are the unifying decorative motif, appearing on the pillars, the porch rail and the side elevations, where rectangular roofed oriels add light and space. A large gabled dormer sits at the center of the roof. The house may have been copied from a pattern book. In 1922 it was the home of Clarence A. Van Derveer, a mechanical engineer who also dealt in real estate and probably sold the neighboring house at number 20 to build here on the formerly double lot. The porch was enclosed and a rear addition made in 1988.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Bungalow","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Condition is stated as good; it is presently used as a dwelling, with a porch enclosure and rear addition in 1988 and a noncontributing c. 1940 garage.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:01.315891-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/31/7906/63790631/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89000690.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000690/66310059b1-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000690/66310059b1-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_18_Park_Street,_Wakefield_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_18_Park_Street,_Wakefield_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63790631","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_18_Park_Street","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5914018"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/house-at-18-park-street-89000690/"}
