It was also once owned by Harland H. Perkins, a local architect who designed a trio of Craftsman houses on Prospect Street. It is considered significant under criterion C at the local level.","narrative":"Built between 1852 and 1856, this 2½-story cross-gabled frame house on Park Street in Wakefield is an ornate example of suburban vernacular Italianate design. It sits gable end to the street with a side-hall plan, a two-story rear ell and a western piazza. Distinctive features include a flat arched portico, long first-floor windows with entablature surrounds, bracketed piazza pillars and a baluster fence, details seen infrequently on the east side of the lake. Park Street was accepted by the town in 1852, and the house was probably built for Dr. Josiah Poland, who is shown owning it on an 1857 map. By 1874 it belonged to James H. Carter, who helped build the Rockery on Wakefield Common. Around 1900 it was bought by architect Harland H. Perkins, who designed three Craftsman houses on Prospect Street. The house retains its original location, setting, design and materials, and a barn survives to the rear.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Italianate","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Condition is described as good; present use is a dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:00.650251-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/22/7910/63791022/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89000689.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000689/ff17761b56-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000689/ff17761b56-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_8_Park_Street,_Wakefield_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_8_Park_Street,_Wakefield_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791022","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_8_Park_Street","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5914493"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/house-at-8-park-street-89000689/"}
