It is one of the few houses in town whose carriage house survives intact, giving a complete picture of late 19th-century suburban domestic building. It is judged significant at the local level under criterion C.","narrative":"This house on Lawrence Street in Wakefield, Massachusetts, is a Queen Anne dwelling dated 1870-74 from an 1874 map. It sits on a rise behind a granite retaining wall and granite gate posts, with a carriage barn at the rear. The house reuses a Greek Revival form, a gable end to the street with a side-hall plan, and updates it with a jerkin head gable roof, a shallow front porch and a two-story bay window. Patterned shingles, multi-pane sash and turned porch posts are standard elements of vernacular Queen Anne style in Wakefield. Unlike the nearby house at 20 Lawrence Street, it gains its complexity through surface elaboration rather than massing. The carriage barn is one of few remaining in town and completes the picture of domestic building from the period. Lawrence Street was settled about 1871, and Frank A. Clapp, a real estate salesman, lived here in 1894. The property is in excellent condition and unaltered.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Present use is a dwelling; condition is listed as excellent with no major alterations.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:00.52196-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/66/7911/63791166/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89000682.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000682/2950e2969b-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000682/2950e2969b-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_15_Lawrence_Street,_Wakefield_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_15_Lawrence_Street,_Wakefield_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791166","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_15_Lawrence_Street","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14715569"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/house-at-15-lawrence-avenue-89000682/"}
