A carriage house (c.1889) stands on the lot.","why_significant":"The house is described as one of the finer Queen Anne houses in its neighborhood, with Stick Style influences in the porch, gable field and first floor. It retains integrity and meets criterion C at the local level. Its street was also part of a neighborhood tied to the local shoe-making industry.","narrative":"This 2½-story gable-roofed house at 11 Wave Avenue in Wakefield, Massachusetts, was built between 1875 and 1888 and remains a dwelling. Its design is mainly Queen Anne, with Stick Style influence that is muted. Clapboard on the first floor and shingle above emphasize horizontal lines, and the house also has shed-roof window hoods, multi-pane sash, a jerkin-head main gable and deep eaves on heavy braces. The porch has open-work detail and a frieze, and patterned shingle adds surface interest. A carriage house of about 1889 survives, and a rear addition was made around 1900. Wave Street was subdivided about 1874 by the heirs of Thomas Emerson, a shoe manufacturer and legislator. Shoe making continued in the area, and Henry Haskell built a factory beside this house between 1874 and 1889. Workers lived in the same neighborhood as the shoe executives for whom nearby streets were named.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne/Stick Style","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Present use is a dwelling; condition is listed as fair.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:12:59.957713-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/20/7912/63791220/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89000678.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000678/6132916a3a-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000678/6132916a3a-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_11_Wave_Avenue,_Wakefield_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_11_Wave_Avenue,_Wakefield_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791220","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_11_Wave_Avenue","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5913905"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/house-at-11-wave-avenue-89000678/"}
