It keeps a fine Federal door surround on its wide south elevation. An associated barn reflects the rural character of the road into the twentieth century.","narrative":"Standing at 193 Vernon Street in Wakefield, this clapboard house is a 2½-story, gable-roofed Federal style dwelling dated to about 1840. It follows the popular three-quarter form, with three bays and an off-center entrance, and is considered one of the largest examples of that form in town. Like the house at 196 Vernon Street across the way, it has a main entrance on the street and a distinctive minor entrance on the south side. The south doorway has a fine Federal surround with a high entablature and narrow transom, while the front surround appears to have been altered. Because the house does not appear on an 1857 map, it may have been built later than first thought, which would make it an old-fashioned design for its time. A barn built after 1889 recalls the rural character of the road. D. C. Wright, a farmer and milk dealer, lived here in 1869. The property was listed for its architectural significance at the local level.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Federal","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Condition listed as good; present use is a two-family residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:01.944635-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/33/7907/63790733/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89000674.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000674/adf1ff4735-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000674/adf1ff4735-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WakefieldMA_193VernonStreet.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WakefieldMA_193VernonStreet.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63790733","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_193_Vernon_Street","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5914032"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/house-at-193-vernon-street-89000674/"}
