It is clapboard-sided, with a hip roof and an octagonal cupola.","why_significant":"The nomination calls it one of the most high-style Federal buildings in Wakefield and a landmark on its lakeside site. It is also closely associated with Lucius Beebe, a prominent local figure who lived there from 1852 to 1884. It is argued to meet criteria A and C at the local level.","narrative":"Set on a hill back from Main Street at the end of a long drive, this clapboard house overlooks a lake in Wakefield. Dated to 1798 or 1818, it may contain framing from an earlier house of about 1727 that stood on the site. The two-story, hip-roofed Federal dwelling has two tall interior chimneys, a deck balustrade, an octagonal cupola, and giant pilasters framing one of its three-bay entrance facades. The south entrance has a portico and a leaded glass fanlight. Though smaller and simpler than the Salem mansions it echoes, it is considered one of the most imposing Federal houses in town. Lucius Beebe lived here from 1852 until his death in 1884. He served as selectman, school board member, Justice of the Peace and state legislator, ran cotton and leather businesses, and gave generously to the library that bears his name. A large rear ell was added to house his family of twelve and their servants. The house remains a dwelling, in excellent condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Federal","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Present use is a dwelling; condition is listed as excellent.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:02.304896-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/22/7916/63791622/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89000667.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000667/01716b5ac8-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000667/01716b5ac8-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WakefieldMA_BeebeHomestead.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WakefieldMA_BeebeHomestead.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791622","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beebe_Homestead","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4879539"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/beebe-homestead-89000667/"}
