It was found to meet criteria A and C.","narrative":"Built around 1876 at 2-4 Rangeley Road in Winchester, this brick house is one of three Panel Brick style dwellings in the town, all in the Rangeley area. David Skillings, a lumber entrepreneur from Maine, bought a large parcel near the town center and developed it into a walled residential park, the Rangeley Estates. He built a house for himself and several others, which he sold to buyers of his choosing. The house has a complex slate hip roof with cross gables, exposed rafter ends and carved vergeboards. Red and tar-dipped black patterned brick create a multicolored wall surface, while sandstone trim includes floral-carved first-floor lintels and sawtooth lintels above. Eastlake-type posts divide the gable windows. The entry sits modestly on the west side beneath a wood porch. The house was later converted to two-family use. Its listing rests on its distinctive architecture and its place in Winchester's growth as a fashionable suburb. The original occupant, named DeRochmont, is otherwise unknown.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect unknown; built by David Skillings on his Rangeley estate grounds","architectural_style":"Panel Brick (Queen Anne)","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Condition excellent; present use is a two-family dwelling, converted from its original single dwelling use.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:01.54093-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/11/7918/63791811/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89000642.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000642/2cff1507c6-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000642/2cff1507c6-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WinchesterMA_DeRochmontHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WinchesterMA_DeRochmontHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791811","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DeRochmont_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5244065"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/derochmont-house-89000642/"}
