It is also associated with the Wyman family, one of Winchester's earliest families and prominent in town affairs. It stands on the site of one of the first houses in present-day Winchester.","narrative":"Built between about 1825 and 1831 by farmer and cordwainer George Wyman, this farmhouse at 195 Cambridge Street in Winchester shows the shift from Federal to Greek Revival design. It is a two and one-half story, gable-roofed house on a rectangular plan, with a five-bay facade typical of the Federal period. Its trabeated entrance with sidelights and six-over-six window sash point toward the Greek Revival. Inside are wide pine floors, a delicate floating stair and many passageways. The house sits on the site of one of the first houses in present-day Winchester, built by the Gardner family around 1660. The Wyman family later acquired the surrounding land. George was a grandson of Hezekiah Wyman, remembered locally as the White Horseman of April 19, 1775. The house is well preserved, has no major alterations and remains a dwelling, and is valued as a local example of vernacular architecture and for its family associations.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"George Wyman (builder, per the historical narrative); architect unknown","architectural_style":"Transitional Federal-Greek Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Condition listed as excellent; used as a dwelling, with no major alterations.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:00.753602-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/34/7916/63791634/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89000609.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000609/8dd8e248ca-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000609/8dd8e248ca-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WinchesterMA_GeorgeWymanHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WinchesterMA_GeorgeWymanHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63791634","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Wyman_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5546564"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/wyman-george-house-89000609/"}
