Four of its six Gothic cottages are the best preserved examples of that design left in Southbridge. It is considered eligible at the local level under criteria A and C.","narrative":"Glover Street in Southbridge, Massachusetts, is a quiet residential neighborhood of nineteen houses and one barn on about five acres. Most are modest middle-class cottages. One five-bay, one-and-a-half story house at High Street probably dates from the late 18th or early 19th century, but the area is mostly late 19th and early 20th century. Six nearly identical Gothic cottages with jigsaw bargeboards date from the first suburban subdivision, probably in the 1880s, and four of them are the best preserved examples of the design in town. A group of seven Colonial Revival and Bungalow-inspired houses, built between about 1910 and 1930, faces a water reservoir on the west side. The land was once part of the forty-acre Clarke-Glover property, and the street was cut through in the 1880s or 1890s. The district reflects how housing for the growing middle class developed near the town's workplaces, and it retains good integrity.","period_of_significance":"early 19th century-1880's-ca. 1920's","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Vernacular styles including Gothic Revival, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival and Bungalow","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Present use is residential; general condition is stated as good.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:02.118803-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/83/7935/63793583/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89000601.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000601/a7a5c5600c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000601/a7a5c5600c-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SouthbridgeMA_100_GloverStreet.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SouthbridgeMA_100_GloverStreet.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793583","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glover_Street_Historic_District","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5572181"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/glover-street-historic-district-89000601/"}
