It is also notable for adapting the stylish Italianate to the familiar gable-front house form. It is described as a well preserved, excellent blend of Greek Revival and Italianate styles, meeting criteria A and C at the local level.","narrative":"Built around 1865 at 42 Edwards Street in Southbridge, this clapboard house follows a three-bay, side-entry, gable-front plan that was common in the mid-to-late 19th century. Its proportions, plan and silhouette reflect the Greek Revival, while arched pediment windows, bracketed cornices and square porch posts come from the Italianate style. The mix was frequent in Worcester County during the 1850s and 1860s, and this house is described as a well preserved example with massive form and well executed details. It belongs to a suburban estate district that developed between Hamilton and Marcy Streets from 1850 to 1880, where owners were generally successful businessmen of Center Village. A. Kinney owned the house in 1870, though nothing is known of his occupation. Charles Dean owned it in 1878, and by 1898 J. M. Cheney held it along with two nearby houses. A carriage house was converted to a garage in the early twentieth century.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival/Italianate","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Condition is described as good; still used as a residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:01.614333-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/3/7935/63793503/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/89000565.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000565/c47712e421-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000565/c47712e421-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SouthbridgeMA_AKinneyHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:SouthbridgeMA_AKinneyHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63793503","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A._Kinney_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4648056"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/worcester-county/kinney-a-house-89000565/"}
