It was the home of William E. \"Billy\" Horne, a wealthy landowner important in the county's development. The farm also reflects mid-19th century Piedmont agriculture.","narrative":"Billy Horne Farm is a secluded 241-acre farmstead in the rolling hills of southern Anson County, North Carolina. Its centerpiece is a two-story weatherboard house built around 1830 in a vernacular Greek Revival style with Federal details, including 22 original nine-over-nine windows, an enclosed stair, and well-preserved grain-painted doors. Nearby are a carriage house, corncrib, overseer or tenant house, barn, family cemetery and other outbuildings set among fields, pine woods and a pond. The property was the home of William E. \"Billy\" Horne, born in 1796, who became one of the county's largest landowners and was reportedly its wealthiest by his death. The farm was listed because the house is an almost unaltered example of a wealthy Piedmont planter's home, because of its link to Horne, and because the farmscape reflects mid-nineteenth century agriculture in the region. Descendants of the same family have owned it since the early 1900s.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1830-1878","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Vernacular Greek Revival (with Federal details)","criteria":["A","B","C"],"status_note":"Still in use as a single dwelling with agricultural outbuildings; the main house has recently had partial exterior restoration and the farm has been in continuous agricultural use.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:57:49.024956-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/28/7189/47718928/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NC/89000496.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/47718928","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Horne_Farm","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q18151925"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/north-carolina/anson-county/horne-billy-farm-89000496/"}
