It is significant for its unaltered appearance, building material and method of construction, and as a continuation of the Hobarts' early 1930s venture into steel housing. It qualifies despite being less than 50 years old.","narrative":"This two-story house at 129 South Ridge in Troy, Ohio, was fabricated entirely of lightweight welded steel at the Hobart Brothers factory on West Main Street and delivered by truck to the Edgehill subdivision in 1941. No bolts were used in its construction. Its Georgian Revival form includes a three-bay facade, a central entrance hood supported by welded steel, a circular window above, original casement windows with decorative shutters, and a truncated hip roof with a central chimney. Moderne touches appear in the smooth walls, rounded corners and steel bands marking the floors. The house was rented until 1945, then purchased by a Hobart Manufacturing Company sales manager. One of 21 surviving Hobart steel houses, it keeps its original steel walls and an unaltered steel garage. It was listed for its intact appearance, material and construction method, and as part of the Hobarts' steel housing venture begun in the early 1930s.","period_of_significance":"1942","architect_builder":"Hobart Welded Steel Co.
