It centers on a farmhouse made of an 1875 cottage and a 1900 addition, with about two dozen outbuildings.","why_significant":"The farm is significant for its intact farm plan and surviving outbuildings, including a rare Farmer's Educational and Cooperative Union store and an unusual horse lot. The house shows plantation-plain style continued after the Civil War, with two construction methods side by side. The tree-lined entrance avenue and picket fence add landscape significance.","narrative":"Four miles north of Springfield, Georgia, this 100-acre farmstead was developed by Virgil Reiser, who bought the land in 1874 and built a one-story cottage in 1875. In 1900 a larger two-story plantation-plain house was added in front of it, built by relative Pierce Edwards. The older part has heavy hand-hewn timber framing, while the newer part uses balloon framing and machine-cut lumber. About two dozen wood outbuildings survive, including barns, a syrup house, smokehouse, blacksmith shop, tobacco barn and a circular horse lot. A small store built in 1912 housed a local branch of the Farmer's Educational and Cooperative Union and is considered very rare. A row of trees leads from the highway to the house, and a picket fence surrounds the yard. The property is recognized for its intact picture of a small, diversified family farm in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and for its architecture and landscape.","period_of_significance":"1875-1938","architect_builder":"Edwards, Pierce (c. 1900)","architectural_style":"Plantation-plain","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling with agricultural outbuildings; the owner grows tobacco on about six acres and grazes cattle on about twelve.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:42.605173-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/89000152.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000152/128f54f233-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/89000152/128f54f233-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Jud McCranie","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Reiser-Zoller_Farm,_Effingham_County,_GA,_US.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Jud McCranie</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Reiser-Zoller_Farm,_Effingham_County,_GA,_US.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93207919","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reiser-Zoller_Farm","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q28153648"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/effingham-county/reiser-zoller-farm-89000152/"}
